Aquascaping - Aquarium Ideas from nature (karst spring)

The purpose of this video is to serve as an inspiration for all the aquarists and aquascapers who are interested in natural underwater biotopes. This is how karst spring looks like. There are almost no aquatic plants underwater, nor are there any fish, which is surprising, because there is a lot o fish food in the water (small Crustaceans). Aquascape of karst spring can be recreated in aquarium quite easily - you don't need expensive LED lighting, CO2 supply system or aquarium plant fertilizers. All what is needed are some stones and driftwood used as decoration, as well as some dried leaves put on the aquarium substrate. However, quite good filtration system should be used. First, becasue there are no aquarium plants which help to keep the water clean, second, because it would be good to create current, which is also present in the spring. If one would like to keep coldwater fish in such biotope aquarium, I would strongly advise to use aquarium chiller to keep water temperature below 10-15 Celsius degrees.

Wer im alltäglichen Getümmel auf dem KIT-Campus unterwegs ist, registriert so manches: den Neubau von Gebäuden, die vielen Fahrräder, die Shuttlebusse. Den unterschiedlichen Bäumen aber gebührt keine besondere Aufmerksamkeit. Oder? Doch, denn unser Campus ist ein ganz besonderes Biotop, weiß Dr. Max Seyfried vom Institut für Botanik, das regelmäßig botanische Exkursionen für Studierende organisiert. So können verschiedene Arten von Pflanzen an ihrem natürlichen Standort erkundet werden. Da ist es natürlich besonders reizvoll, dies direkt vor Ort zu tun und herauszufinden, welche Bäume hier wachsen. Dass es zu vielen auch noch eine Geschichte zu erzählen gibt, zeigt das Video „Der Campus als Biotop".
